Disc golf tournament at park?s new course
Mahoney State Park near Ashland, Neb., will host its first tournament Sept. 8 at the park?s new disc golf course.
Registration costs range from $20 to $40, depending on division.
Sign-up will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by a 9:30 players meeting. The first round will begin at 10 a.m., with the second round after lunch.
Free rain garden workshop in Lincoln
Registration is due by Wednesday for the 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sept. 8 rain garden workshop. It will be held in the Prairie Building at the Pioneers Park Nature Center, 3201 S. Coddington Ave. in Lincoln.
Participants will learn how rain gardens are designed, installed and maintained to capture and conserve runoff water.
There is no charge for the workshop, but pre-registration is required by contacting Ellen Wright at 402-441-7075 or ewright@lincoln.ne.gov.
Sioux City Lions offer grants up to $3,000
The Sioux City (Iowa) Noon Lions Club is accepting applications from tax-exempt groups for the club?s charity grants.
Priorities are given to sight and hearing services; survival essentials, such as shelter, food, and clothing; diabetes awareness and education; and services for the community, youths, health and the environment. The maximum amount for each grant is $3,000.
