Raccoon and Bobcat Numbers Decline in ... - Exotic Pets - About.com

The invasive species issue in Florida is no new news. Since 2000, the number of mammals encountered during road surveys has decreased between 87-99%. Raccoons, opossums, and bobcats were once seen very commonly and are now only being seen as commonly as they used to in areas where pythons are not flourishing - yet.

This survey gives us a good idea of the decline of native species due presumably to the invasive pythons that are assumed to have been pets at one time. More and more locals are being asked to help identify the animals they are seeing to help get a better count on what is out there. IveGot1 is one way to help by just using your iPhone. It gives you identification help with reptiles you see in Florida and phone numbers to call to report sightings.
