The Hardships of Jewish Immigration to the Land of Israel in the 1930s

The only thing the Arabs know what to do. Lod airport after they had firebombed it
At the beginning of the 20th century the immigration of Jews from Europe started to increase. Pogroms in Russia, Poland and later Germany drove Jews out of countries that had been their homelands for centuries. Many of them decided to return to the original home of the Jews, the land now known as Israel.
It was firstly, under the boot of the Ottoman Turks, and after the first WW became a protectorate of the British.
During the period before WW2 the returning Jews purchased large tracts of land from the Turks and from it?s Arab owners. With financial help from the likes of the Rothschild family, and a lot of hard work, they started to build the infrastructure of a modern state.
The port of Tel Aviv was built because the Arabs of Jaffa port went on strike and work was started on Lod airport.
During the late 1930s the Arabs revolted against the British and the Jews. While the British army eventually succeeded in restoring a semblance of order, the Arabs won a huge victory when the British responded to Arab demands and announced its ?White Paper? in 1939 severely restricting Jewish immigration to and growth within Palestine.
The Arabs attempted to destroy much of what the Jews had built. Lod airport being one of their targets.
